Durable Dog Toys for Our Super-Chewers!

Updated: Apr 15

Every dog owner has a toy doctor’s surgery, or worse, a toy graveyard. I get it, buying new toys gets expensive and stitching up old ones is annoying.

So, while no toy is completely indestructible, below is a list of toys (with links!) that might just be a little more worth it!

Dogs who chew and chew... and chew!

One of my dogs, Alfie, is a massive chewer. And finding chew toys that actually last him longer than an hour is tough (pun intended). These are the best ones I’ve found.

Goughnuts Black Ring Pro (This is probably THE toughest toy you will find): .75 Black Ring Pro 50- The Strongest toy in this size (For dogs 10-40lbs) — Goughnuts

DIY options

  • Olive wood chew

  • Frozen carrot / celery / broccoli stalk

  • Root chew

Dogs who like balls!

Every dog loves to chase a ball occasionally, but some more than others. And for those who play with their ball constantly, they’re going to need a durable one!

Dogs who like to shred

Alfie isn't just a chewer, he's a shredder too! Tearing toys apart is something a lot of dogs just love to do, as it's a natural instinct. But it can get pricey... here are some options.

DIY options:

  • An iceberg lettuce

  • Broccoli stalk

  • Carrots

  • Cardboard box with paper

Dogs who like teddies

My other dog, Molly, loves teddies more than any other toy, and although she’s no super-chewer, her teeth do get the better of her at times, like all dogs. So this is a list of some soft toys that might last longer than normal!

Go dog dragon (Molly's favourite, she's had this for 3 years and there isn't a single hole, image to the right): goDog Bubble Plush Dragons Squeaky Dog Toy, Chew Guard Technology - Coral, Large : Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies

Tuffy dog toys: Tuffy – Be More Bob

Dogs who like soft toys but eat stuffing

Molly is bad for this too! She doesn’t purposely try to make holes, but once there is one, she will just try to eat the stuffing. This is a huge concern as it can get stuck and this would require an expensive surgery. But… Molly isn’t a fan of chew toys, she just loves teddies. So, stuffing free teddies are the way forward.
