Create your own agility course!
You’ll need:
An outdoor secure space
Imagination!
Create a jump:
Create something for your dog to jump over. Here’s some ideas:
Garden canes taped into a ‘H’ shape, with the bottom two poles into the grass.
Prop a mop or broom pole up on two chairs.
Use a laundry basket with a pole between, like in the photo!
Create a hoop:
Balance a hula hoop against a tree, fence or shed to create a hoop jump.
Create a tunnel:
Get an old sheet or blanket and peg it to the backs of chairs to create a tunnel. If you are doing this in the garden, you could peg the sheet along a fence or shed.
Create weave poles:
Use garden canes and stick them in the ground in a straight line for your dog to weave in and out of.
Create a platform:
Dogs should have a break in agility, can you find a platform for your dog to sit on for a few seconds. Maybe a sofa cushion, footstool, or dog bed could work!
Create a catwalk:
In most agility courses, dogs will need to walk along a thin platform, sometimes raised up high. How about a line of cushions to walk along? Or, do your parents have any old pieces of wood in the shed that you can borrow?
Create a reward at the end:
Phew! After all that work, your dog (and you) need a reward!
Dogs love to sniff and lick, so let’s use a bowl (or if they have a Lickimat, Kong, or Slow Feeder, even better!).
Spread something yummy on the outside, such as Primula cheese, mashed banana, or dog-friendly peanut butter. Make it more exciting by adding some of your dog’s favourite treats! If you have time, you could also freeze it to make it last longer!
