Fancy baking something special for your hungry dog? Or maybe you are fed up of store bought training treats? Then I have just the trick!
I’ve listed three training treat recipes for you to make for your dog that they’ll absolutely love! And if you get to the end you’ll also find another exciting recipe for when you want an extra special treat for your furry friend!
Pumpkin and Peanut Butter Treats
Ingredients:
½ cup of pumpkin purée
1 Egg
1 Tbsp. of dog friendly peanut butter (no xylitol or palm oil)
1 Tbsp. of oil (I prefer coconut)
1 cup plain flour
Method:
In a blender, combine all the ingredients apart from the flour, and blend until smooth.
Transfer mixture to a bowl and add in the flour a little at a time.
Mix until you get a dough.
Divide into 6 even pieces and roll into sausages, placing them on a greased baking tray.
Bake at 180C for about 15 minutes, or until the sausages are starting to turn brown and are firm on the outside.
While still warm, slice into training treat sized pieces And then leave to cool.
Banana and Honey Treats!
Ingredients
1/4 cup of oats
1 cup flour
4 oz blended banana
1 Tablespoon honey
1 large egg, beaten
Optional: peanut butter for frosting (make sure it is dog friendly - no xylitol or palm oil!)
Method:
In a bowl, mix the banana, honey, flour, and oats until you get a dough.
With a little extra flour, dust the counter and knead the dough well.
Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough to a thickness of about a 1/4 inch.
Use cookie cutters for bigger treats, or a pizza cutter for bite-sized training treats.
Place treats on a baking tray and brush the top of each treat with the egg.
If you’ve used bigger cookie cutters, bake for 25 minutes until doggie biscuits are golden brown, or, if you’re making training treats, they should only take 10-16 minutes.
Remove the treats from the oven and let cool.
Optional: Melt the peanut butter in the microwave and drizzle onto each treat. This works best for the bigger biscuits as you’re training treats may end up very sticky!
Tuna and Cheese Treats
Ingredients:
1 cup of Flour
5oz can of Tuna
1/2 cup of Cheese - grated
1 Egg
Method:
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until you get a doughy consistency.
Press mixture into a lined or greased baking tray.
Bake for 20 minutes at 180c
Cut with a pizza cutter into pea sized pieces.
Return treats to baking tray and cook for a further 30 minutes, then keep checking them every 5 minutes until they are dried and golden brown!
Bonus: Apple Pretzels!
All you need is:
3 cups flour
1 egg , beaten
1 cup of plain, unsweetened apple sauce
Method:
Mix the apple sauce and flour in a bowl.
Pour 1 tbsp of the egg into a separate bowl, and add the remaining egg into the apple sauce and flour mixture.
Stir this mixture until you get a dough.
Split mixture into even pieces (each one around two tbsp). Roll into a tube and then twist the ends together into a pretzel shape.
Place onto a greased or lined baking tray.
Brush the top of each pretzel with the egg you set aside earlier.
Bake for around 25 minutes or until they are firm and slightly brown.
Let cool and serve your gorgeous doggy!
I hope your dog enjoys these!
